Elbow at The Palace

Review of the Elbow at The Palace, July 2011

Sufferers of angst could easily stay in their rooms with the Elbow back catalogue believing that Guy Garvey was singing their lives to them. But Elbow are much more than that.

Elbow at the Palace. The set opened with "The Birds". The crowd warmed immediately. In the performance of "Lippy Kids", Garvey tried to get the crowd to whistle the parts back but it was not that melodic. After several failed attempts the crowd replied with a wolf whistle which got a wry smile from Garvey. During the course of the show, they mentioned they had been around 20 years. This drew an immediate rendition of Happy Birthday from the audience. "Starlings" opened with them all hold brass instruments. This lead into "Perfect Weather To Fly".

The set list was primarily taken from Build a Rocket Boys and Seldom Seen Kid One Day Like This I'll even forgive them for refusing to play "Newborn" Throw those curtains wide. One day like this will see you right. Couldn't have put it better myself.
